Summer Team Scholarships and Fundraisers

2019 Scholarship Applicant Requirements

There are three requirements to be eligible for scholarship for the 2019 season:

1.      You must be registered using the Sports Engine online registration system. An offline payment option is available upon request to so that you do not pay fees until after scholarship is announced.

2.      You must submit an essay as detailed above by 24-April.

3.      You must sell 20 ($200) worth of discount cards for the U18/U16/U14 teams and 10 ($100) worth of cards for the U12/U10 teams and turn in collected monies,

While your essay will be evaluated and monies set aside once you have completed items 1&2 above, you will not be eligible to practice/play regardless of scholarship awarded until you have turned in monies for discount cards.

Example:

John complete his registration using the offline payment code, leaving him an unpaid balance of $650. He, also, submits his essay on 23-April. He is then issued 20 cards within a few days and he starts selling them to family, friends and neighbors. Please note that John hasn't paid any money to the club yet.

On 8-May John learns that he was awarded a 50% scholarship toward his 2019 club fees or $325.  Yeah for John!  He has already sold all of his required cards and turns in his $200 dollars.  John's club account is credited with $200 for the fundraiser plus his scholarship of $325 for a total of $525.  This means that John is only responsible for $125 of his total club fees, ie $650-525=$125.  He can arrange to make payments on this balance for the next several months.

So glad you are playing with us John!

Note: If you are not awarded a scholarship, you will be responsible for your club fees of $650 plus the incremental $100 in cards that were issued to you.  However, do not fear as the $200 for the cards will come immediately off of your account once you turn in your money, leaving you a balance of only $450 and you can purchase more discount cards and/or utilize our 50/50 sponsorship program to offset the amount you owe.

2019 Storm Summer Team Scholarship Details

Research shows that active kids are healthier, do better in school, and stay out of trouble.  As such, one goal of Southern Indiana Select Lacrosse is to engage as many kids as possible in a summer sport.  Another benefit of our program is that it brings together folks from throughout the greater Evansville community to teach teamwork and leadership.  Kids that play sports are more confident and physically fit.  Therefore, we believe it is important to provide a program where participation is not contingent upon financial means, but rather on determination, commitment, and dedication.

For these reasons, Southern Indiana Select Lacrosse has established need-based scholarships for our 2019 participants.  Players may qualify for up to 100% of their 2019 fees: $650 (U18/U16/U14) or $350 (U12/U10). Note: You must participate in club fundraisers to be eligible for scholarship – see details below. With support from the community via club sponsorships and fundraisers, we are hopeful to expand this program in the future to include not only 100% of the club fee but also travel expenses.  This will require tremendous dedication on the part of the entire Southern Indiana Select Lacrosse Family!

To be considered for the 2019 Summer Program Scholarship, a player must submit an essay to southernindianaselectlacrosse@gmail.com by 5PM on Wednesday, 24-April.  Your essay should detail the following:

  • Why you require financial assistance or historical context as to your need.
  • How being part of the 2019 Eville Storm team will benefit you as a player, student, and community leader.
    • Examples may include increasing likelihood of college recruitment, provide an opportunity for better understanding of the game, allow team-building and fellowship with students from other schools, explore new cities and cultures outside of Evansville, etc….
    • This paragraph should highlight the many avenues in which a travel sport program, like Southern Indiana Select Lacrosse, may support your growth into adulthood over the coming years.
  • Ideas and suggestions on how you can give back to the community and thus pay-it-forward.
    • This can be anything from coaching a feeder team to activities with your church.  Be creative.  We want to know how you are going to make a difference.

Please do not put your name or any identifying information into your essay.  They will be numbered and provided to a selection committee anonymously.  Members of the committee will evaluate each essay and determine a priority and monetary recommendation.  Based on these numbers and the total amount of scholarship available post our short term fundraising and sponsorship activities, we will determine what can be allotted to each request.  As of today, we have $1500.00 available.  As such, we cannot make any guarantees on how much, if any, scholarship you will receive. With that said, know we are working diligently to help make the program accessible.

2019 Storm Summer Team Fundraisers

Do you need assistance with your 2019 Storm Summer team registration or travel fees?  For 2019, all players will receive $100 worth of discount cards once they have paid their fees.

If you are industrious and would like to purchase additional cards to offset your fees, they can be purchased for $10 each which is then immediately credited to your account in the form of a refund. You then keep all monies collected. Please let us know and we can provide at the HSCL Conference tournament on 11-May or upon full payment of your 2019 fees.

Example:

Bill pays his fees in full ($650) on 4/1/2019.  The club issues him 10 discount cards valued at $100 total on or around the middle of May.  Bill keeps all money he collects from selling the cards.

Bill knows his parents are strapped for cash so he wants to sell an additional 10 cards for a $100 credit on his account.  Bill pays the club $100 and the club issues him 10 additional cards and issues a credit on his Sports Engine account for $100.   Bill keeps all money he collects from selling the cards.

While Bill's mom paid $650 initially for him to play, Billy has sold all 20 cards and collected $200 making the total cost to his family only $450.  Great job Bill!
